Daytime talk shows will likely take the same path as the late night talk shows, as The Talk, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Jennifer Hudson Show and The Kelly Clarkson Show are all reportedly eyeing October returns. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Though the author didn’t reveal their identity, the “mid-level writer” behind the Fake Carol Lombardini X/Twitter account gave an interview about their rise to strike fame, even naming one particularly surprising follower. “[Amazon’s] Jennifer Salke has been a “Fake Carol” follower from almost the beginning, which I’ve always sort of loved, but she’s never interacted with the account,” they say. “Very curious what she thinks.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
So, the residuals for streamers is still the flat rate system but with a viewership bonus for reaching certain viewership metric? That is very good for top performing shows. But what is stopping the streamers from pulling shows from their library like Max and Netflix recently did? I feel like a penalty should have been included to disincentivize the streamers from doing that or if they do it, the writer should get some compensation.
As with the last two strikes - in which reality was different from the agreement - I'll be interested in seeing how this is playing out this time next year.
