We can't put food on our tables. Too much silence on the issues that effect ordinary men. Art is a refection of our society and sadly, had been declining for years.
Yeah, this whole year is fucked for everyone; below the line crews are with you. There's a thread in the Facebook group "Crew Stories" that began by asking "What luxury item have you had to give up because of the strikes?" So many people gave up the "luxuries" of housing, food, medical care and mental health.
The rally in Toronto was more than solidarity with the WGA and SAG, ACTRA has been locked out by the ICA (the entity that negotiates on behalf of Canadian ad agencies) for 16 months now. These ad agencies had a working relationship for 60 years and then 486 days ago, ICA decided to look out ACTRA commercial actors and use scab labour. These rallies have been happening for 16 months now. And it is not getting enough attention. Big brands like Wendy's, H&R Block, Sleep Country, Canadian Tires are using these agencies that are using scab labour for commercials.
The rally's purpose was to amplify ACTRA's cause as well as show solidarity with SAG and WGA. The hope has been that these rallies will amplify ACTRA's causes to an American audience as well but so far disappointed to see how THR has not mentioned it at all in their article.
